Your host is Mr. Kri. He is an ex-policeman who lost his leg in a terrorist attack, but I have never met a person who is so happy with his life. This is why I call him "the laughing policeman". His demeanour is infectious. He loves to chat, and will help you all he can.
Uppuveli is about 6 kms north of Trincomalee Town, and Nilaveli is 9 km to the north of Uppuveli. Both areas are known for their scuba diving, and there are water sports centres on the beach that you can contact.
If you need anything such as an extra pillow, kettle, torch or mosquito net, tell Mr. Kri, and he will be more than happy to help you with your request. He is 100% dedicated in making your visit extra special.
His working colleague, Sumathy, does not speak much English but she understands everything. She is in charge of the kitchen. Her domain is to create exuberant dishes for you from a menu which is of great value. She wears bangles on her feet, and you can always hear her coming.
So between Mr. Kri the laughing policeman and Sumathy, I think you are going to have a great time. I certainly did.
Uppuveli is quieter than Nilaveli, and there are more fishermen in this area. The beach has golden sands, and you can see the sea crabs running along the shore line at night as well as diving into their claw made sand holes for protection.
Only 1.1 kms away, you can enjoy the tranquility of the Trincomalee War Cemetery, a well kept place that is dedicated to those who died in the Second World War, irrespective of their creed or nationality.
The no. 1 tourist attraction in nearby Trincomalee some 6 kms away is the Koneswaram Temple, which besides being beautiful has some amazing views. Close by is Frederick Fort and Marble beach.
The guest house is off the Nilaveli Road. Heading north, look out for the White House Holiday Inn sign post on your right. At this junction there is a small fish market. There are many types of local shops around this area such as a barber's, and general stores. After taking this turning, the guest house is about 100 m on the right.
