Sigiriya is in the cultural triangle of Dambulla (19 kms) and Polonnaruwa (54 kms), and as such is an ideal stay over point. The Sigiriya Rock itself (known literally as Lion’s Rock) can be seen on all sides and with its 180 m height, this rock fortress is impressive. It will take you approx. 1 hour to ascend the rock, and 30 minutes to descend the 1,200 steps. The frescoes are world famous, and the intricate palace is a place of wonder. It became a World Heritage site recognised by UNESCO in 1982.

Tourist activities in the area include elephant riding, buffalo cart riding and shopping for artifacts and batiks. There are also ayurvedic massages in the area but the best ones are located in the area of Habarana.

The Sigiriya Riverside Homestay is in a jungle setting. You may see wild fowl and monkeys. If you don’t see monkeys, you will certainly hear them.
